RE: LC 2.10 now available
>Actually I'd like to know how many people are actively using LC
Hi Melinda,
I am a Ph.D student at The University of Liverpool and my project is based
in the field of antennas and propagation research. I've been using LC for
about two years now and I have had quite a lot of success in modelling
antenna geometries for mobile communications systems. This software has been
a great help to me in my research, without it I wouldn't be able to
investigate mobile antenna geometries, and all this for no charge! You may
be aware that commercial code can cost quite a bit of money and for many
research groups the only options are to develop their own code or pay for
the software. The development time needed for FDTD implementation can be
quite considerable (I personally had an attempt at TLM (Transmission Line
Modelling Method) a few years ago) which is not always a viable option when
time is against you so LC has been a saviour for me. The only down side to
using LC is that there are a few unresolved features as Frank Lenning has
pointed out, in relation to sub-cell modelling and equivalent wire antenna
implementation. Hopefully these and other problems can be resolved in the
future.
I am also pleased that LC has been distributed for the Linux platform and I
successfully use it on Mandrake ver 7.
I am not the only person in my research group that use this software and
below is a summary some of our research conducted using LC:
Mobile antenna system geometries and the interaction with an anatomically
correct human body.
Ground penetrating radar.
Modelling of TEM (Transverse Electromagnetic) horn antennas.
Modelling of GTEM (Gigahertz Transverse Electromagnetic) cells.
Best wishes,
Dean
