Cut Microstrip With Matched SPICE Circuit

Model side view

This model is of a microstrip that has been cut into two pieces. The missing segment has been replaced with a SPICE L-C network that matches the microstrip impedance on both sides (seen as two red bars). When the model is run, SPICE is executed along side the FD-TD electromagnetic simulation, and the pulse driven from the left end of the microstrip passes through the apparent discontinuity in the middle without reflection.

Model top view

A source has been placed at the left end of the trace (seen as a yellow bar) to drive a pulse which propagates to the right. Another SPICE circuit containing a 50-ohm resistor has been placed at the far right end of the trace (seen as a tiny dot) to terminate the microstrip.
